Biography
Larry Leibowitz is Of Counsel to the firm and practices in the securities regulatory and corporate practice areas. During his more than 40 year legal career, Larry has primarily represented broker-dealers, investment advisers, hedge funds and other financial services industry participants in connection with compliance and regulatory issues and investigations and in general corporate matters.
Before joining Lehman & Eilen in 2006, Larry was in private practice for ten years. For 14 years prior to that, Larry was the general counsel of Cowen & Company, a New York-based international broker-dealer and NYSE member firm, which engaged in retail and institutional brokerage, investment banking and asset management. Larry provided regulatory, compliance and transactional advice to the firm’s senior management, branch offices and trading desks. He also represented the firm and its personnel in securities industry arbitrations and regulatory proceedings, and supervised all firm litigation.
Larry also was an assistant general counsel of a Fortune 500 company and an attorney with Willkie Farr & Gallagher, where his practice involved securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions and other transactions, as well as the representation of broker-dealers, investment advisers and commodity brokers in various regulatory matters. Larry began his legal career with the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C.
Larry formerly served as an arbitrator for the NASD/FINRA for over 20 years and for the American Arbitration Association for more than 10 years. He also has been a mediator for the NASD/FINRA since 1998.
